Anything but Temporary: Transformative Period for Online Shopping Habits is Here to Stay For the Holidays and Beyond
Coming off a year when online marketplaces grew at double the rate of traditional eCommerce, consumers are once again turning to marketplaces – to fulfill their holiday needs this year. This holiday season, 94% of shoppers plan to continue, or increase, their frequency of shopping on an online marketplace.
This finding is part of a new global survey dedicated to holiday consumer trends across the world: The 2021 Holiday Shopping Snapshot by Mirakl, featuring 9,000 respondents (including 1,000 respondents each from Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Singapore, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States).
Regardless of their location, survey participants had a clear message: the online holiday shopping movement is here to stay. In 2020 online purchases made up 46% of all holiday spending, up 50% from 2019. One year later that number has gone unchanged, remaining at 46% even as storefronts and shopping centers reopen around the world.
